Recently I got my hands on an iPhone SE 2, or the 2020 edition, whichever name you prefer. Before I got the phone in hand, I wasn't so sure how the size would feel on a day to day due compared to my iPhone 11. With the SE coming in at a 4.7-inch display, the 11 dwarfs in comparison with its 6.1-inch display.
So I knew it was going to be a stark change when switching devices. What I wasn't expecting, was how much I would like the smaller device. I rarely use my 11 now, as the SE serves all my needs and daily activities.
Another factor to take into consideration is the different means of unlocking the phone. While the 11 uses the relatively new Face ID, the SE uses the now polished and highly coveted and praised Touch ID.
What are my thoughts while using both? While Face ID disaster, because you don't even have to think about it, Touch ID is still amazing. The haptics in the sensor makes it feel exactly like a button and giving a satisfying clicky feeling every time you unlock your device.
Now while I like the simplicity and ease of face ID, they're something about the chunky bezels, physical homer button, and small form-factor that really gives me a wave of nostalgia. Another huge advantage to the smaller form factor is usability and reach. usability is that the size of the device is so good in the hand, it very simple to do any task, reach meaning that unlike my 11, I can reach every corner with one hand, and that can be very helpful when using it one-handed, or having to do something very quickly.
While the battery isn't insane on the device, it is acceptable at the $400 price tag and small physical form factor. On top of that, my 11's battery doesn't last me much longer anyway.
The glass back on such a small phone feels weird, as all the phones I previously had with this form factor have had plastic bake, but this gives the device just that much more [premium feel, and it really makes a difference.
While I've only used this device for about 2 days, I'm already in love with it, and I think you will be too, so make the switch.
